Joe Rogan isn't sure Islam Makhachev can handle welterweights with 'nuclear power' - MMA Junkie

“Joe Rogan expressed uncertainty about whether UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev possesses the "nuclear power" needed to compete effectively against larger welterweight opponents. The comments came ahead of Makhachev's title defense against Ian Machado Garry at UFC 330, a bout that highlighted the Russian fighter's grappling dominance but raised questions about his striking power at a higher weight class. In the United States, the matchup generated significant buzz, driving higher pay‑per‑view buys and increasing mainstream media coverage of MMA. Expert Analysis: Rogan's skepticism underscores a broader market narrative—UFC fans and sponsors gravitate toward fighters who can convincingly dominate multiple divisions, which could accelerate cross‑weight matchmaking. If Makhachev successfully adapts, it may open lucrative endorsement pathways and expand the UFC’s appeal to a wider U.S. audience seeking high‑impact fights.”
